Kuari pass is a mountain lovers’ delight during the winter season. You have an unending vista of the biggest mountains in India opening up right from day one. You even get to see the clearest view of the full face of Mt Nanda Devi, India’s highest mountain.
More than this, Kuari Pass is a near-perfect trek. You go through ancient forests filled with oaks and rhododendrons. Just as your eyes are getting used to the tree canopy above, the trail opens into meadows. This interplay of different kinds of landscapes makes the trek very exciting.
You camp at outstanding locations on this trek. Whether it is the forests of Chitrakantha or the Khullara meadow in the shadow of Mt Dronagiri, each campsite leaves you in awe of your surroundings.
If you are stepping into the Himalayas for the first time then Kuari Pass is the trek to do. It is almost crafted perfectly for the beginner.
To begin with, Kuari Pass is a 4-day trek (6 days when you include the travel days from Rishikesh). The trek starts from Karchi, a small village near Joshimath in the Garhwal Region of Uttarakhand. It is situated in the Nanda Devi National Park.
Kuari Pass is an easy-moderate trek, which makes it easy enough for someone starting in the Himalayas. But more than anything else there are three things about the trek that stay with you.

Things To Carry: Walking stick (one), Backpack (min 60 Ltrs) with rain cover, Dark sunglasses (U/V protected), Trekking Shoes (Forclaz 100, 500 recommended), pairs of full sleeve shirts/T-shirts and track Pants, 2 pairs of cotton socks. 3 pairs of woollen socks, 1 full sleeves sweater or fleece jacket (preferable), One jacket, 1 Pair Thermal inners, 1 pair gloves, Sun cap, One scarf, Lip balm, Cold cream and sun screen, Water bottle, Headlamp or torch with fresh pair of batteries, Personal toilet kit and toilet paper and Personal medicine kit etc.
Kuari Pass Trek From Rishikesh
Drive to Joshimath in a shared private vehicle, enroute see four confluences on Holy River Ganga (DevPrayag, RudraPrayag, KarnaPrayag and NandaPrayag). Late evening arrival at Joshimath. Check-in, dinner and overnight stat at Joshimath.
After breakfast drive up to Auli ,then we start our trek from Auli to famous Bugyals (meadows) of Gorson, From here, we can see 27 high mountain peaks along with second heights peak Nanda Devi , Dinner and overnight stay in tents.
Morning Breakfast trek to Khulara . This walk is through the forest of pine and cedaron the way we see beautiful lake tali,the area surrounding tali is lush green grazing grass land for Himalayan sheep and cattle . After reaching Khulara, we pitch our tents and enjoy camp fire. Dinner and overnight stay at Khulara camp site.
After breakfast we start trek to climb Pangarchulla peak, its trekking peak near kuari pass area, on the summit we can have a view of 360digree Himalayan panorama. Mountain: Hati- Ghodi parvat, Kamet , Barmal- Trishuli, Dronagiri, Mana peak, Neelkanta, Bethartoli, Barhmal , Hanuman peak, Changbang, kalanka , nanda ghunti , nanda kot, and much more...
After morning Breakfas, We start trekking down from Khulara to Joshimath. It’s a 10 Km downhill trek. on the way we get to see natural springs, Himalayan village, agricultures Field.At Tapovan our privet vehicle will await our arrival to drive us back to Joshimath.
Post early breakfast drive in private vehicle from Joshimath to Haridwar (approx. 345 km, 9-10hr drive). Lunch enroute, Dinner on arrival at Rishikesh . Drop at Haridwar Railway Station for late night (approx. 2330hrs) train to New Delhi. Trip end.
